Earlier this week, Sebastian Vettel shocked the F1 paddock by announcing his departure from Scuderia Ferrari. Where does this leave the four-time F1 world champion? I’m saying Sebastian could join Racing Point. The Silverstone based team is set to become Aston Martin racing in 2021. The question is whether Vettel at 32 will still be open to a new challenge that will take several years. I will discuss the pros and cons should the German decide to sign with the British giants.

Pros:
A major factor in Vettel’s decision could be the arrival of Toto Wolff. The current team principal of Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team invested in the British manufacturer (Aston Martin). In recent months, Wolff and Racing Point owner Lawrence Stroll have been in touch. It is likely Sebastian Vettel will join the British giants and get the team to winning ways in no time.
Furthermore, an increased budget and a cash injection from Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll puts the team in a good position for the 2022 regulation change aimed to shuffle the pack. What better than a multiple world champion to come on board and push Aston Martin to the sharp end of the grid fighting with the likes of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red-Bull.
Cons:
The biggest hurdle for Aston Martin is Sergio Perez' contract. In 2019, the Mexican extended his contract by three more seasons, which means he will be tied until at least 2022. So, the only option for Stroll is to buy this contract out, as removing son Lance from the team seems a bit far-fetched.
Moreover, Sebastian’s statement from Ferrari said
“My relationship with Scuderia Ferrari will finish at the end of 2020. What’s been happening in these past few months has led many of us to reflect on what are our real priorities in life. One needs to use one’s imagination and to adopt a new approach to a situation that has changed. I myself will take the time I need to reflect on what really matters when it comes to my future.Scuderia Ferrari occupies a special place in Formula 1 and I hope it gets all the success it deserves. “Finally, I want to thank the whole Ferrari family and above all its “tifosi” all around the world”
This drops a strong hint that the 32-year-old is ready to hang up his racing boots and call it a day. What's your take?
